An international recognition for the bold new work that captures the sound and soul of divided Nicosia.

The self-titled debut album by Buzz’ Ayaz, a band from Nicosia, Cyprus, has been named Best Album of the Year 2024-2025 by the Transglobal World Music Charts (TWMC), standing out among top international releases. The album, released in August 2024 on the independent label Glitterbeat Records, has already received enthusiastic international reviews for its bold sound and unique identity.

Formed in the heart of divided Nicosia, Buzz’ Ayaz brings together Antonis Antoniou (electric tzouras, vocals, electronics), Manos Stratis (synth bass and organ), Will Scott (bass clarinet), and Ulaş Öğüç (drums, triggers). Their music fuses Eastern Mediterranean psychedelia with rock, blues, dub, and electronic elements, enriched by microtonal nuances, polyglossia, and grooves that echo the 1970s. The result is a sound that bridges tradition and modernity with a strong global appeal.

Beyond music, the project also embodies a cultural statement: musicians from different communities of Cyprus collaborate within the band, symbolizing artistic and social coexistence in a city -and country- that remains divided. The international recognition from TWMC underscores this vision and places Nicosia on the global music map.
