Eurostat: Cyprus records marginal deflation 0.1% in August

Food, alcohol and tobacco lead inflation rates in August

Cyprus recorded a marginal deflation of 0.1% in August, according to Eurostat’s flash estimate. It was the only euro area member state with negative inflation, while overall euro area inflation rose to 2.1%, up from 2% in July.

The highest inflation was registered in Estonia at 6.2%. Among the main components of euro area inflation, food, alcohol and tobacco posted the highest annual rate in August (3.2%, down from 3.3% in July), followed by services (3.1%, down from 3.2%), non-energy industrial goods (0.8%, unchanged), and energy (-1.9%, compared with -2.4% in July).
