The Ministry of Finance has submitted a request to Parliament for the release of €3.3 million, to be granted as subsidies covering expenses of foreign film and television productions that used Cyprus as a filming location.
Just last month, the State Aid Commissioner, Stella Michailidou, gave the green light for the implementation of this support measure, titled the “Scheme for the Promotion of the Audiovisual Industry.” Running from 8 August 2025 to 30 July 2027 with a total budget of €25 million, the scheme aims to promote Cyprus as both a filming destination and a tourist attraction, attract foreign capital, and boost the activity of domestic audiovisual production companies, thereby creating new jobs in the sector.

According to the Finance Ministry, the first three are comedy series featuring well-known Scandinavian comedians who alternate in presenting humorous aspects of their personal lives. Each consists of six 30-minute episodes and will be available globally on Amazon’s streaming platform.
The company SUS2 AVC Ltd applied for support for Superstars, Season 9, an 18-episode sports entertainment series (60 minutes each) to air on Warner Bros Discovery Channel. It features former athletes and champions competing in events across Cyprus. This is the second application under the same title, following a previous season completed in 2023. That production spent €1.46 million in Cyprus, paid €73,196 in taxes, and employed 73 people, including 29 Cypriots.
2. Drama series - €1,057,324
Funding will go to the four-part drama The Ex Wife - Series 2, based on the book by Jess Ryder (pseudonym of Jan Page), known for her psychological thrillers. A total of 98 people worked on the production, including Cypriots and EU citizens permanently residing in Cyprus.
3. Crime series - €541,204
The crime drama Sisters in Crime, produced by SIC AVC Ltd, will receive over half a million euros. The 10-episode series (45 minutes each) follows two sisters who become entangled in solving crimes. It is expected to premiere in the fourth quarter of 2025.
