Fourteen students and two teachers who were stranded in Tanzania due to political unrest arrived safely in Cyprus on Wednesday morning, the foreign ministry said. Two additional escorts are returning to Greece.

The group was airlifted from Kilwa to Zanzibar on a dedicated flight and overnighted there. They then travelled via Dubai, arriving at Larnaca this morning.

The foreign ministry urged Cypriot travellers to stay closely informed when visiting countries experiencing crises, to consult travel advisories and to contact local diplomatic missions when needed.

The repatriation was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working through the Cypriot High Commission in Nairobi and the National Crisis Management Centre, in close cooperation with the EU Delegation in Dar es Salaam.
