The United States Department of Justice has released another large batch of documents connected to the federal investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in a Manhattan jail in 2019. The files, made public late Monday, form part of a phased disclosure process ordered by Congress, with further releases expected in the coming weeks.

According to The New York Times, the documents contain thousands of pages of material, ranging from internal emails and unverified public tips to records from the Metropolitan Correctional Center, where Epstein was found dead. While heavily redacted, the files include hundreds of references to President Donald Trump, reflecting his long-standing social and professional acquaintance with Epstein before the two fell out.

The Department of Justice stated on social media that some of the material contains “untrue or sensationalist claims” that circulated before the 2020 presidential election. Most of the references to Trump appear in secondary documents such as press clippings or tips included in the investigative files.

A small number of entries, however, relate to federal prosecutors’ internal correspondence. One email from January 2020 notes that flight logs showed Trump flew on Epstein’s private jet “many more times than previously reported,” indicating eight flights between 1993 and 1996. Some of these flights included individuals who were potential witnesses in the criminal case against Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021. Other flights included Trump’s former wife Marla Maples and his children Tiffany and Eric. Trump has not been accused of any wrongdoing in relation to either Epstein or Maxwell.

Trump, speaking at Mar-a-Lago earlier on Monday, dismissed attempts to link him to the case, calling the focus on Epstein a political distraction. He said the release risked damaging the reputations of individuals pictured with Epstein socially but not connected to any offences.

The new trove follows an initial release on Friday, which included images of Epstein with former president Bill Clinton and grand jury testimony from past proceedings. Some victims and advocates described that material as overly redacted and limited in new detail.

The latest documents also show that prosecutors subpoenaed employment records from Mar-a-Lago in 2021 during the Maxwell investigation. Additional items include parts of Maxwell’s tax records, FBI tip reports and internal communications from the Manhattan jail.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has said the Department of Justice will continue releasing documents over the coming weeks to meet congressional transparency requirements.
