A temporary ceasefire is set to take effect in Ukraine over Orthodox Easter, after Russia announced a pause in hostilities and Kyiv said it would follow suit.
The Kremlin said the truce would begin at 16:00 on Saturday, 11 April, and remain in place until the end of Sunday, 12 April, covering the Easter holiday period.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was prepared to observe the ceasefire, noting that Kyiv had already proposed a similar pause for Easter.
In a post on X, he said Ukraine had repeatedly signalled its readiness for reciprocal steps and would act accordingly. He added that people should be able to celebrate Easter without fear, and that Russia now had an opportunity to extend the pause beyond the holiday and move towards meaningful progress on peace.
Despite the announcement, attacks were reported earlier on Saturday. Regional authorities in the Dnipro region in eastern Ukraine said Russian strikes on three districts killed two people and injured three others.
Officials said two people were killed and one injured in the Synelnykove district, while two men aged 40 and 74 were wounded in Nikopol.
