New Foot-and-Mouth Outbreaks Reported in Western Nicosia

The total number of infected livestock units has now reached 112 across the affected areas.

New cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in Kokkinotrimithia and Palaiometocho, according to the Veterinary Services.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Veterinary Services said that one sheep unit containing 35 sheep had been identified in Kokkinotrimithia, while one cattle unit with 160 cattle had been detected in Palaiometocho.

“Both units are located within the infected area of western Nicosia,” the statement added.

The total number of infected units has now risen to 112.

Meanwhile, a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday between Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister Maria Panayiotou, farming organisations and the group “Voice of Livestock Farmers” as part of discussions on issues related to foot-and-mouth disease.
