Movement, sale and transfer for slaughter of sheep, goats and cattle will require prior notification and official permission.

Strict measures are being introduced in the north to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, with broad restrictions placed on the movement of livestock.

According to an announcement by the veterinary services in the north, issued as the Feast of Sacrifice began, the movement, sale, transport for slaughter and any transfer of sheep, goats and cattle between livestock units is prohibited unless prior notification has been given and “official permission” has been secured.

The announcement stressed that there would be no tolerance for “unauthorised” animal movements.

It also warned that “legal” measures would be taken against anyone found to be violating the decisions.
