Neofytos Neofytou, president of the Voice of Farmers, says he will “go even further” after reporting a serious armed threat against him late on Tuesday night on the Delikipos-Lythrodontas road.
Speaking to Politis 107.6 and 97.6 and the programme Morning Review with Katerina Iliadi, Neofytou said he was driving when two motorcycles carrying three people cut him off. According to his account, one of the men pointed a gun at his head and threatened him.
Neofytou said the men were wearing black hoods and that he did not recognise them. He added, however, that the man who allegedly threatened him with the gun was Cypriot.
According to the complaint under investigation by the Larnaca CID, the 43-year-old reported that his vehicle was suddenly blocked by two motorcycles. Damage was also caused to the front windscreen of his car.
Neofytou said the men warned him that “next time, you understand what will happen,” while allegedly telling him to step back in relation to the foot-and-mouth disease issue.
He said he could not link the incident to any specific matter, noting that the outbreak and its handling involve a wide range of interests.
“I cannot connect it to something broader regarding foot-and-mouth disease, it is a very big issue,” he said, adding that “some are affected to their benefit, others to their detriment, but I cannot say anything further as to where this is coming from.”
Larnaca CID is investigating the case.
