May Rainfall Surges to More Than Three Times the Average in Many Areas

Rainfall in May has reached 220% of normal levels as of 25 May, with several regions recording more than triple the average for the month.

From the beginning of the month, average rainfall in the free government-controlled areas reached 43.2 millimetres, compared with a normal monthly average of 19.6 millimetres.

The highest relative increase was recorded at Paphos Airport, which reached 394% of normal levels. Polis Chrysochous followed with 375%, Stavros tis Psokas with 364% and the new Limassol port with 360%.

In terms of total rainfall, the highest amount was recorded at Stavros tis Psokas with 99 millimetres, while the lowest was at Larnaca Airport, with just 13.6 millimetres.

Since 1 October, overall rainfall has reached 116% of the normal level, with all areas exceeding average seasonal rainfall. Total precipitation over this period reached 566.3 millimetres, compared with a normal level of 487 millimetres.
