Three people were killed and four others injured when a minibus collided with an elephant inside Murchison Falls National Park in northwestern Uganda, authorities said.

The crash happened on Sunday, 24 May, on a road inside the park. The vehicle was carrying seven Uganda Revenue Authority employees who were travelling from Arua to Kampala after official duty.

According to police, the driver hit the elephant as it crossed the road and then lost control of the vehicle. Three occupants died at the scene, while four others, including the driver, were injured and taken for treatment.

Police urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving through national parks and wildlife-protected areas, especially at night, warning that wild animals often cross the roads.

Footage from the scene showed the damaged vehicle and the injured elephant struggling near nearby vegetation. Authorities did not immediately provide information on the animal’s condition.
