President Nikos Christodoulides has publicly condemned what he described as a violation of the sovereignty of Qatar and reiterated Cyprus’s solidarity, following a telephone conversation with the Emir of Qatar. He labelled the breach a “serious threat to regional stability” and acknowledged Qatar’s vital role in mediating a ceasefire in Gaza and in promoting regional peace.
In a written statement, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the two leaders also discussed ways to deepen the excellent bilateral relations between their countries across a range of areas of mutual interest, stressing that both nations stand to gain from such co‑operation—and that securing regional security and stability formed a key part of their discussion.
Christodoulides also spoke with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, on the phone to exchange views on recent developments in the region and their attendant challenges. He emphasised the importance of de‑escalating tensions, safeguarding stability, and advancing prospects for lasting peace in the wider region.
