President Nikos Christodoulides met Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in New York on the evening of 24 September, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said in a written statement. The President briefed the Patriarch on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and reiterated the Republic of Cyprus’ determination to achieve a viable, functional settlement. The discussion also highlighted the centuries-old ties between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Church of Cyprus, bonds that remain a point of reference for Cypriot Hellenism, confirming mutual appreciation and shared values that link the Ecumenical Throne with Cyprus and its people.
High-Level Diplomacy at the UN
Today, 25 September, President Christodoulides meets UN Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters at 6:30 p.m. (Cyprus time), on the margins of the UN’s 80th General Assembly. Earlier, at 4:00 p.m. (Cyprus time), he is scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The President will also host a working lunch with the Permanent Representatives of the five Permanent Members of the UN Security Council, before a later meeting with ExxonMobil Vice President John Ardill.
