The EU relies on the Cyprus Presidency, said the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, during a joint press conference with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, after their meeting at the Presidential Palace and their participation in the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament.

According to Metsola, the EP looks forward to working closely with the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU on a wide range of issues, including migration, the Multiannual Financial Framework, housing, and Ukraine.

For his part, President Christodoulides assured the European Parliament of the close cooperation of the Cyprus Presidency, adding that the Republic of Cyprus is assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU with a great sense of pride.

He reaffirmed Cyprus' role in the region and noted that the Cyprus Presidency will act as a bridge for cooperation, serving as a point of convergence between the interests of the EU and the US.

The President of the Republic reiterated his intention to invite both the Turkish President and the Turkish Foreign Minister to the Informal Council of Foreign Ministers to be held in Cyprus in April, adding that it is up to them whether they attend, while Metsola reiterated that the Cyprus problem is a European problem.

Referring to housing, they both stressed that the plan to be presented by the European Commission should include actual solutions, while the Commission's proposal should also include a financial instrument.
