“I will not allow anyone to accuse me of corruption.”
President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides said on Thursday that anyone who has evidence of direct or indirect financing linked to him should immediately submit it to the competent state authorities, stressing that he will not allow any accusation of corruption to stand against him.
Speaking to journalists in the afternoon in Larnaca, Christodoulides said:
“I want to publicly call on anyone who has evidence of direct or indirect financing of me, either during the pre-election campaign or during my presidency, to submit it immediately to the competent state authorities. I have said this many times and I will repeat it today. I will not allow, to anyone, the right to accuse me of corruption.”
Investment policy and corporate responsibility
The President also referred to his policy on attracting foreign investment, noting that this effort began on his first day in office and will continue.
“The effort to attract investments, which I launched from day one, will continue,” he said, adding that it is in the country’s interest and is already delivering results. He cited, as an example, the outcome of his recent visit to the United States, where American investments in Cyprus were announced.
Christodoulides stressed that foreign companies investing in Cyprus must also contribute socially, within the framework of corporate social responsibility.
“Yes, within the framework of these investments, the companies that come must also offer social contributions, within the context of corporate social responsibility, to the state,” he said, reiterating that such contributions are made in sectors including health, social welfare, defence and other areas.
