An 81‑year‑old convicted prisoner who was being held at the Central Prisons and was serving a six‑year sentence for sexual‑related offences died on Monday night at the Nicosia General Hospital.
The prisoner was suffering from serious health issues and was undergoing regular haemodialysis.
At around 18:45, he was transferred by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where he passed away at approximately 22:20.
The Police have been informed of the incident and all prescribed procedures are being followed.
The exact causes of death will be determined following the legally required post‑mortem examination to be carried out on the body.
