The Paphos District Court on Friday issued an eight-day remand order against a 53-year-old man in connection with the femicide of a 34-year-old woman, to facilitate police investigations.
According to police, the incident occurred on 17 August. The suspect, aged 53, appeared before the Paphos District Court today, which ordered his temporary detention for eight days.
The man is accused of killing 34-year-old Irini Papakitsa in Chloraka on 17 August. He was discharged on Thursday from Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital, where he had been admitted after the murder. He was initially treated at Nicosia General Hospital and later transferred to Athalassa.
Following his release, he was arrested and brought before the Paphos District Court for the remand hearing. Once investigations are complete, he is expected to be referred to trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Paphos on charges of premeditated murder, femicide, and attempted murder of the victim’s underage child.
The victim’s 14-year-old son sustained a neck injury inflicted by the suspect. He was treated at Paphos General Hospital and later discharged. The boy is now staying in Paphos with close relatives of his mother.
