The Cyprus Ports Authority held a public awareness event on Saturday at Limassol’s old port, as part of this year’s Movember Cyprus campaign to highlight the importance of prostate cancer prevention. Visitors were invited to shave or groom their moustaches at the campaign’s signature Movember van.
Among those attending were the head of the Limassol Sports Organisation, Yiannis Tsouloftas, and Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis. They both took the opportunity to trim their moustaches and send their own messages on the importance of early detection both for prostate cancer and for men’s health more broadly.
Port Authority President Zinos Apostolou said the authority would continue supporting initiatives that promote social awareness, expressing hope that the event would encourage men, in particular, to prioritise preventive screening for prostate cancer.
“Prevention is crucial in tackling cancer, especially prostate cancer," Tsouloftas said.
Armeftis said his presence, along with that of the the sports organisation, aimed to send a message of unity in addressing public health awareness. Through the simple act of moustache grooming, he added, participants hoped to deliver a clear reminder that prevention remains the best form of treatment.
