Pavlos Kontides secured another major win on 1 December, claiming gold at the 8th Portugal Grand Prix in Vilamoura as part of his preparations for the 2026 season. The victory follows his recent success at the Strozanac Cup in Split, marking his second consecutive training-camp triumph.

According to a Press Release, the regatta brought together a highly competitive fleet, including most of the top ten sailors from the European Championship, with 80 entries overall. Kontides completed the event with 32 penalty points, finishing just ahead of Italy’s Fiamme Oro on 33 and Great Britain’s Elliot Hanson on 35.

His programme now continues with winter training in Lanzarote until February, before travelling to Palma de Mallorca for the season’s opening event, the Trofeo Princesa Sofia. The calendar also includes World Cup Hyères, the European Championship in Split, the World Championship in Ireland and a summer preparation block in Los Angeles leading into the 2028 Olympic Games.
