Police believe that two individuals riding a motorcycle were responsible for the attack on the home of painter George Gavriel, according to statements made on Friday by the Police Headquarters spokesperson.
Speaking on state radio, Police spokesman Vyronas Vyronos said investigators are examining material evidence and witness testimony related to the throwing of firecrackers at the artist’s residence. He confirmed that, based on information gathered so far, the perpetrators appear to be two people who arrived and fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Vyronos stressed that the seriousness with which the incident is being treated is reflected in the fact that the investigation has been taken over by the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department.
He added that police are also proceeding ex officio with further investigations into a separate incident involving photographs of students performing Nazi salutes at a secondary school in Larnaca. That case, he said, is also being treated as particularly serious and is under investigation by the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department.
