Justice Minister Costas Fytiris has indicated that developments are imminent regarding the allegations made on social media by Ioanna Fotiou, known as Annie Alexui, stating that authorities intend to examine the claims through institutional channels.

Speaking to CyBC, Fytiris said that steps are already being taken but stressed that a case cannot be substantiated solely through posts on social media.

“There must be testimonies and formal statements. Evidence is one part, and the investigation, which concerns the Police and will be forwarded to the Legal Service, follows a specific procedure,” he said.

Asked who would undertake the investigation, Fytiris noted that this would be decided in consultation with the Legal Service, which may appoint either an independent investigator or a person it deems appropriate and trustworthy.

He reiterated that institutions cannot receive evidence or testimonies publicly via social media platforms, adding that “a solution will be found and we will soon have updates on the case.”
