The Department of Meteorology issued a new yellow alert for severe thunderstorms on Thursday, in force from 03:00 until 17:00 local time.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected at intervals, with early morning impacts likely along the western, northern, and southern coasts, while the mountains, interior, and eastern areas will be affected mainly after noon. Hail may occur during storms, and winds are expected to vary in direction and strengthen near storm cells. Rainfall will be locally intense, with downpours reaching 35-55 millimetres per hour in the heaviest bursts.
Officials advise drivers and pedestrians to allow for extra time, keep safe distances on wet roads and avoid flooded areas.
