Promotions and Allegations of Favouritism

Discussions emerge within the Police following 28 promotions, including officers serving in security details linked to senior officials.

Discussions have begun within the Police following 28 promotions granted last Friday to the ranks of Senior Inspector and Acting Senior Inspector. Among those promoted are two officers serving in security details, one assigned to the Presidential Guard and another to the security detail of Minister of Justice and Public Order Marios Hartsiotis.

The promotions have prompted comments and speculation regarding possible favouritism. Some have raised the question of whether it was conceivable for promotions to proceed without including individuals perceived to be closely associated with senior officials.

Those who believe they have been treated unfairly have the option of seeking legal recourse.
