Old sewing machines, scissors and patterns tell the story of a trade that carries memories of another city.

A different kind of oral history walk is introducing the public to the tailors of old Nicosia, through personal accounts, old patterns, tape measures and photographs that carry the memories of the trade.

For one morning, the Cyprus Oral History Association is opening the doors of traditional tailors' workshops inside the walls of Nicosia. It is inviting the public on a walk to meet the people, stories and objects of a profession that holds memories of another city.

When and where

The event, titled "Every Stitch, a Memory", will take place on Saturday 3 October 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00, at the tailors' workshops on Aeschylus Street and the surrounding streets.

Participants will have the chance to step into the tailors' workplaces, listen to their stories and see up close old sewing machines, scissors, tape measures and patterns. Through these personal accounts, they will discover a piece of Nicosia's history.

Open interviews and free entry

As part of the event, interviews open to the public will take place at 10:00 and 11:00. The information point will be at the Stoa of the 7 Keys and will open from 09:45.

Participation is free, and visitors can choose which workshops they wish to visit and follow the route at their own pace.

Registration is available online.
