Daphne Pitta Diogenous, president of the Rialto Theatre’s board of directors, told CNA she was pleased with the Cabinet’s decision to approve the request to lease the theatre to Limassol Municipality.
The request had been postponed at the Cabinet’s two previous meetings, prompting concern among the municipal authorities and the Rialto board.
The Cabinet approved the request yesterday, Tuesday. “We are all very pleased with this development,” Pitta Diogenous said.
The board president praised the new Deputy Minister of Culture, Clea Hatzistefanou Papaellina, saying she “was effective and decisive, giving fresh impetus to an issue that had been pending for years”.
She said the Rialto board looked forward to close cooperation with Limassol Municipality to find the appropriate structure. She also expressed confidence that the two sides shared positions and goals, adding: “Now we must work closely together to safeguard Rialto’s administrative and artistic independence.”
