A Greek island has secured the top spot in the seaside destinations category of the list featuring the 50 best travel ideas for 2026, published by the British newspaper The Guardian.

According to the report, the island stands out as an ideal destination for travellers looking to disconnect from the intensity of everyday life and experience a more authentic style of holiday.

The image of white Cycladic houses, quiet beaches away from mass tourism, as well as local flavours and activities, creates a setting that combines relaxation with authenticity.

Guardian 2026 list includes destinations worldwide

The Guardian list features destinations from around the world, ranging from Italy and France to Morocco and Finland, highlighting the international scope of the selection.

The Greek island that secured the distinction is Astypalaia.

The recognition is part of a broader effort by the local municipality to strengthen the island’s outward-looking profile and position it more dynamically on the international tourism map.

Deputy mayor Kostas Kampylis noted that the distinction confirms the strategy aimed at promoting Astypalaia as a high-quality and multifaceted destination, at a time when geopolitical developments are creating uncertainty in global tourism.

Within the same framework, the municipality recently participated in the international tourism fair ITB Berlin 2026, where representatives held meetings with journalists, content creators and tourism professionals from key markets in Europe and the United States.
