Russian President Vladimir Putin declared on Monday a two‑day ceasefire with Ukraine, on the occasion of celebrations marking the victory of the Soviet army over the Nazis in the Second World War.
According to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defence, the armed forces will observe a unilateral ceasefire on 8 and 9 May, “based on the decision of the supreme commander‑in‑chief of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.”
At the same time, the ministry warned that if Ukraine attempts to disrupt the celebratory events, “there will be a massive retaliatory missile strike on the centre of Kyiv.”
