Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Sunday that the man allegedly responsible for shooting senior Russian military intelligence officer Vladimir Alexeyev in Moscow has been arrested in Dubai and handed over to Russian authorities.
Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, deputy head of Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU, was shot multiple times in an apartment building in Moscow on Friday, according to investigators. Russian media reported that he underwent surgery following the attack.
The FSB said a Russian citizen named Lyubomir Korba was detained in Dubai on suspicion of carrying out the attack.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Ukraine of being behind the attempted assassination, claiming the aim was to undermine peace talks. Ukraine said it had no involvement in the incident.
Alexeyev’s superior, Admiral Igor Kostyukov, head of the GRU, is leading the Russian delegation in talks with Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, which are focused on security issues as part of a potential peace agreement.
