Rockstar Games is taking an unconventional route for its next major reveal, giving Netflix a temporary exclusive window for the most substantial presentation of GTA VI so far. The showcase arrives less than three months before the game’s scheduled launch, following years of carefully controlled official footage.
Netflix gets first access
“Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” will premiere on Netflix at 10pm Cyprus time on Thursday, 27 August. Six hours later, at 4am on 28 August, it will become available through Rockstar Games’ official YouTube channel.
The arrangement marks a departure from Rockstar’s usual strategy of releasing major announcements directly through its own platforms. Netflix has described it as a first-of-its-kind partnership, giving its subscribers early access to one of the year’s biggest gaming events.
The companies have worked together before. Mobile versions of “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition” were previously made available through Netflix Games. The new agreement goes further, placing a major game reveal on Netflix’s main streaming service and presenting it as a wider entertainment premiere.
What Rockstar has not revealed
Rockstar has yet to disclose the presentation’s length or exactly what it will contain. The “Extended Look” title points to something broader than a conventional third trailer, although the company has not confirmed whether viewers will see uninterrupted gameplay or a detailed breakdown of the game’s systems.
Only two full trailers have been released so far. The first arrived in December 2023, followed by a second in May 2025, while Rockstar initially confirmed that development of the successor to GTA V was under way in 2022.
A return to Vice City
GTA VI is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida, with Vice City serving as its central location. The story follows Jason and Lucia, who become caught in a criminal conspiracy after an apparently straightforward robbery goes wrong.
The pair are forced to depend on one another as they move through a modern version of Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. Rockstar has described the game as the largest and most immersive evolution of the series to date.
Expectations are exceptionally high. GTA V was first released in 2013 and subsequently appeared across three generations of consoles. According to Take-Two Interactive, the game had reached nearly 230 million copies sold worldwide by May 2026.
Release date, price and editions
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar has not announced a release date for PC or confirmed a version for Nintendo Switch 2.
The Standard Edition is listed at €79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs €99.99 on European digital storefronts. The more expensive edition includes additional vehicles, weapons, clothing, customisation options and other content unlocked throughout Jason and Lucia’s story.
Purchases completed before 20 November will also include the Vintage Vice City Pack, featuring in-game items inspired by the neon aesthetic of 2002’s “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City”. The Ultimate Edition upgrade will remain available separately for Standard Edition owners.
Physical boxes will not include a disc
Physical copies will begin shipping and appearing at participating retailers on 12 November, one week before the official release. However, the boxes will not contain a Blu-ray disc.
Instead, buyers will receive a code allowing them to download the game and begin pre-loading it ahead of launch. Rockstar says pre-loading will begin at midnight local time on 12 November, with the game unlocking on 19 November.
Only the Standard Edition will be sold in physical packaging. Those buyers will still be able to purchase the Ultimate Edition upgrade digitally after redeeming their download code.
