The official visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Cyprus, originally scheduled for today, has been postponed due to her urgent return to Italy. The decision follows a severe security incident in Modena, which resulted in multiple civilian casualties.
Joint state response in Italy
The Italian Prime Minister is travelling directly to Modena alongside Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The two state leaders will visit the affected area to offer support to the injured citizens, their families, and the local community.
Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed that the bilateral summit will be rescheduled for a future date to be mutually agreed upon by Nicosia and Rome. He emphasized that the Republic of Cyprus continues to attach vital importance to the systematic strengthening of ties with Italy, as well as to their ongoing coordination on shared European and regional objectives.
Cyprus offers formal solidarity
The Republic of Cyprus has extended its official solidarity to the Italian government, the people of Italy, and all individuals affected by the tragic violence. Underlining the strong diplomatic ties connecting the two Mediterranean nations, Letymbiotis reiterated that the strategic partnership remains a priority that will be advanced as soon as circumstances permit.
