Pack Sunscreen and Maybe an Umbrella: Mountain Showers Before the Heat Returns

Isolated showers are expected over the mountains today before temperatures climb above seasonal averages until Monday.

seasonal low pressure system is affecting the region, bringing a brief spell of mountain rain before the heat settles back in. Anyone hoping for a break from the summer sizzle will have to make do with a few clouds, as the mercury is set to climb steadily into next week.

Today's forecast

After the morning's local low cloud clears, the weather will become mainly fine. Clouds developing around midday and in the afternoon are expected to give isolated rain over the mountains.

Winds will blow mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, initially light at 3 Beaufort, becoming light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally in the south reaching up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, in the afternoon. The sea will be slight.

Temperatures will rise to 37C inland, around 34C on the north coast, around 32C on the remaining coasts and around 27C in the higher mountains.

Tonight

The evening will be mainly fine, although patchy mist or fog and low cloud are expected to form locally in the early morning hours. Winds will gradually become variable and light, up to 3 Beaufort, with the sea calm to slight.

Temperatures will fall to around 21C inland and on the coasts and around 17C in the higher mountains.

The weekend and beyond

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday the weather will be mainly fine, although locally increased cloud will be observed at intervals.

Temperatures will rise gradually until Monday, settling above the average climatological values for the season.
