TechIsland and the PSI Foundation hosted business and government figures in Limassol around the Bill Viola exhibition.

The technology sector now contributes around 16% of Cyprus’s gross domestic product (GDP), establishing itself as one of the main pillars of the island’s economy. The sector’s growth and its broader role in society were highlighted at an event organised by TechIsland and the PSI Foundation in Limassol on Monday, 12 October.

Officials and speakers at the event

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nicodemos Damianou, representing President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides.

Addresses were also delivered by Valentinos Polykarpou, president of TechIsland and Chief Locations Officer at Wargaming, and by Petr Valov, co-founder and chief executive of Exness, who also sits on the TechIsland Board of Directors.

The three speakers referred to the growth of the technology sector in Cyprus, which has developed into one of the key pillars of the economy, with a substantial contribution to economic activity and employment.

They also stressed the importance of creating opportunities for communication and cooperation between the business community and other parts of society, beyond the setting of conventional professional meetings.

Technology meets art

The event, titled “An Unspoken Gathering”, took place at the PSI Foundation on the occasion of the exhibition “Bill Viola. Unspoken”. It brought together government representatives, company founders, chief executives and senior executives from technology firms and other businesses.

Unlike typical business networking events, the organisers chose to use art as a starting point for conversation among guests.

Participants were given a guided tour of the exhibition by Bill Viola, one of the most significant figures in contemporary video art, followed by a reception and exchange of views.

The American artist’s work, which explores themes such as time, human experience and perception, provided the backdrop for a gathering with a different focus, allowing guests to discuss matters beyond the confines of their business activities.

A wider role for technology companies

The event also reflected the technology community’s aim to strengthen its presence in areas beyond the economy.

The contribution of technology companies is no longer limited to creating jobs and boosting GDP. It now extends to initiatives in culture and social activity, and to shaping a more attractive environment for businesses and professionals to establish themselves and operate in Cyprus.

In this context, the partnership between TechIsland and the PSI Foundation was presented as an example of linking entrepreneurship with culture, at a time when the technology sector is gaining increasing weight in the Cypriot economy.

Sponsors and exhibition details

During the evening, TechIsland thanked the sponsors supporting its activities and initiatives, namely Exness, payabl., Bank of Cyprus and PwC Cyprus.

The exhibition “Bill Viola. Unspoken” runs at the PSI Foundation until 24 October 2026, with guided tours available in Greek and English.
