Government budget allocations for research and development (R&D) in Cyprus stood at €113.9 per inhabitant in 2025, according to data published by Eurostat on Friday. The total amount reached €111.996 million, down from €150.610 million in 2024.
According to Eurostat, the corresponding amount in Cyprus was €155.9 per inhabitant in 2024 and €69.3 per inhabitant in 2015.
At European Union level, governments allocated an estimated €130.2 billion in their budgets to R&D in 2025, under government budget allocations for R&D (GBARD). The amount was equivalent to 0.69% of EU GDP.
According to Eurostat, this represented an increase of 2.4% compared with 2024, when allocations stood at €127.144 billion, and an increase of 60.5% compared with 2015, when they amounted to €81.138 billion.
Government budget allocations for R&D in the EU stood at €288.9 per inhabitant in 2025, marking an increase of 57.7% compared with 2015, when they were €183.2 per inhabitant.
