Livestock farmers have decided to suspend their protest scheduled for today at Rizokelia, following a government initiative to open substantive dialogue on the sector’s demands.
The decision came after a full day of intensive consultations between representatives of the livestock sector, the Presidential Palace, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Veterinary Services. During these discussions, the farmers were granted a one‑week time window for their demands to be examined in detail.
Government initiative cited
According to the farmers, this was the first time they observed a clear willingness by the authorities to listen to their concerns and address the serious problems facing the sector, prompting them to put the planned protest on hold.
Farmers’ announcement
In a statement, livestock farmers said the protest was cancelled following initiatives by the Presidential Palace, the Veterinary Services and the Ministry of Agriculture to begin consultations.
They noted that the suspension of the protest is being made in good faith and with the expectation that substantive decisions will be taken for the future of livestock farming. They added that they remain united and on alert, stressing that their next steps will depend on developments in the coming days.
