The National Guard has established a new capability to design and produce unmanned aerial systems, following the launch of a Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAV/FPV) Production Laboratory at the 12th Engineering Battalion.
The development was highlighted during a visit by National Guard Commander Lieutenant General Emmanuel Theodorou to the newly established facility, the National Guard General Staff said.
During the visit, Theodorou was briefed on the design, development and production of unmanned systems by the National Guard, as well as plans for their further development and operational deployment.
"This capability marks a significant step in the technological and operational transformation of the National Guard, enhancing its autonomy, flexibility and ability to adapt rapidly to the demands of the modern battlefield," the announcement said.
According to the National Guard General Staff, the laboratory forms part of a broader effort to build a modern, technologically advanced and operationally flexible force.
The announcement said the initiative reflects continued investment in innovation and the development of domestic expertise in defence technologies.
