An open social tango evening will take place in Nicosia on Thursday 1 October at 8pm, inviting anyone curious about the dance to try it, with no prior experience or partner needed. Titled Curious about social tango?, the event starts from a simple question: how social dancing and the experience of the embrace can shape our relationship with ourselves and with the wider community. The organisers aim to offer a different introduction to tango, in an inclusive setting free of fixed expectations about bodies and how they should dance.
At the heart of the evening is the social side of tango, the encounter with another person through movement and the chance to express emotion through the joy, melancholy and intensity of its music. As the invitation puts it, the goal is to create a space where "bodies that want to dance, dance." Participants can get to know social tango, have a drink and take to the floor, and admission is free.
The venue is on the ground floor and is accessible by ramp, although the organisers point out that there is no accessible toilet.
