According to Chrysostomou, on 21 September 2026, a 76-year-old man reported receiving a text message on his mobile phone displaying "traffic CY" as the sender. After opening it, he provided, among other details, his bank card number. A total of €3,963 was then taken from him in two ATM withdrawals in Nicosia.

In a second complaint, on 2 October 2026, a 68-year-old man reported receiving a text message on his mobile phone with "CY MEDICAL" as the sender name. After opening the message, he provided, among other details, his credit card number, and €770 was taken from him.

An arrest warrant was issued against him and he was arrested around noon today. His home was subsequently searched and a number of items were taken as evidence.
