Licensing procedures for projects by the Cyprus Land Development Corporation (CLDC) in Larnaca district will be prioritised and expedited, under an agreement with the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (DMO). The two bodies have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in promoting affordable housing solutions and housing available for rent, with a particular focus on families, young people and lower-income households.
Meeting between the two organisations
The issue was discussed at a meeting between Larnaca DMO President Angelos Hadjicharalambous and CLDC President Nikolas Diomidous. The DMO's Director General, Sofoklis Christodoulides, also attended, according to an announcement by the organisation.
Expediting licensing procedures
At the meeting, the two sides agreed to immediately prioritise and expedite the licensing procedures for CLDC projects. The aim is to speed up the implementation of projects with a significant social impact.
Housing pressures in Larnaca district
Particular emphasis was placed on the housing problem, which is acute in Larnaca district. According to available statistical data, Larnaca has the lowest per capita income among Cyprus's districts, making the need for affordable housing options even more pressing.
Joint press conference in November
The two organisations agreed to hold a joint press conference in November. At the press conference, the CLDC will present the affordable housing programmes available in Larnaca, their availability, the application process, and the criteria and requirements.
Commitment to cooperation
The Larnaca DMO and the CLDC reaffirmed their commitment to working together on specific and workable solutions. Their stated aim is to make a meaningful contribution to addressing the housing problem and meeting the housing needs of residents in the district.
