Five hooded people broke into a home in Limassol in the early hours of Thursday and, threatening a foreign couple with knives and a pistol, stole approximately €5,000 and jewellery worth hundreds of thousands of euros.
Limassol CID chief Costas Michael said the robbery took place at around 3:00 a.m. while the couple was asleep at their home in the Sfalangiotissa area.
According to the 36-year-old woman’s report, the perpetrators appeared in the bedroom carrying knives and a pistol. They tied her 43-year-old husband with adhesive tape and demanded that she open the safe in the room.
After taking approximately €5,000 and high-value jewellery, they also tied up the 36-year-old woman with adhesive tape and left the scene.
Limassol CID was informed of the incident at around 7:00 a.m., after the couple managed to cut the tape and call the Police. Michael said officers visited the scene, collected evidence and examined the area, adding that the investigation was in full swing. CCTV footage from the area is also being examined.
The perpetrators were found to have forced open an aluminium window that was closed but not secured. Asked about their nationality, Michael said: “There are some indications, which it would not be right to elaborate on at this stage.”
