The OUXEKA-SEK and SYXKA-PEO trade unions have jointly written to Labour and Social Insurance Minister Marinos Mousiouttas, calling for the publication of employment contracts relating to third-country nationals working in the hotel and leisure industries.
According to the unions, a considerable period has passed since an initial request was submitted and despite repeated verbal assurances and commitments from relevant departments within the ministry, the contracts have still not been made available.
The two organisations expressed strong disappointment over the continued delay, saying it raises legitimate questions about the willingness of the competent authorities to implement measures that have already been agreed and repeatedly promised.
Concerns over transparency
The unions argue that the failure to follow through on these commitments undermines the positions and interventions of the trade union movement and reflects a lack of respect for institutionalised social partners and the social dialogue process.
They are calling on the minister to take the necessary steps to ensure that employment contracts for third-country workers in the hotel industry are published, so that all parties concerned are properly informed and relevant procedures are correctly applied.
Existing employment terms
The unions noted that previously published contracts included specific employment conditions derived from the sectoral collective agreements covering hotels and restaurants, as well as provisions contained in regulations governing hotels and leisure centres.
According to the unions, the contracts stopped being published following revisions to Cyprus' strategy on the employment of third-country nationals, a development they say has raised further questions.
