Trade in goods between Cyprus and Greece totalled €3.3 billion in 2025, underlining the strength of the two countries’ economic ties.
Energy, Commerce and Industry Minister George Damianou disclosed the figure ahead of a meeting on Monday with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Harry Theoharis.
Focus on strengthening trade ties
Speaking to CNA on Saturday, Damianou said the talks would focus primarily on trade and ways to further strengthen the already close economic and commercial relationship between Cyprus and Greece.
“The meeting is aimed more at constructively further strengthening the already close economic and trade relations between Cyprus and Greece,” he said.
Damianou explained that discussions would centre on the international trade portfolio of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry. He noted that Greece is an important partner for Cyprus in terms of both imports and exports.
“In 2025, total trade in goods between the two countries reached €3.3 billion,” he said, describing Greece as “a very important partner” for Cyprus.
He clarified that foreign policy issues would not be discussed at the meeting, which would focus specifically on trade.
Brief discussion with Herzog
Asked about energy matters concerning Cyprus-Israel relations following the recent visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Cyprus, Damianou said the two had held a brief discussion at the airport.
Their conversation touched on issues including the finalisation of arrangements concerning the Aphrodite-Ishai gas field and the electricity interconnector, although the exchange was largely ceremonial in nature.
