Inflation in Cyprus stood at 3.7% in September 2026, compared with an average of 2.3% during the first nine months of the year, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Thursday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.74% compared with August, reaching 104.01 points from 103.25.
On an annual basis, the largest increases were recorded in petroleum products, at 25.8%, and in the electricity and water category, at 11.2%. By contrast, industrial products, excluding petroleum products, fell by 1.1%.
By category of goods and services, the largest annual increases were recorded in transport, at 11.9%, and in housing, water supply, electricity, gas and other fuels, at 9.6%. Prices for clothing and footwear fell by 10.8%.
Impact
Compared with August, the largest monthly increase was recorded in housing, water supply, electricity, gas and other fuels, at 3.0%. Educational services followed at 1.8%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages at 1.3%. Transport fell by 0.8%.
At the level of individual products and services, recreation services had the largest positive impact on the annual change in the CPI, at 2.97 points, followed by catering services at 2.82 points and rents at 1.56 points. The main negative impacts came from mobile communication services, at -1.53 points, insurance, at -1.13, and medicines, at -0.94 points.
In September compared with August, fuels and lubricants had the largest positive impact on the CPI, at 0.34 points, followed by electricity at 0.24 and vegetables at 0.23 points. By contrast, passenger air transport had a negative impact of 0.48 points.
During the January-September 2026 period, the CPI rose by 2.26% compared with the corresponding period of 2025.
