With around a month to go, shoppers in Cyprus are preparing for this year’s Black Friday, which falls on Friday 27 November 2026. It will be followed by Cyber Monday on 30 November, the day dedicated to online shopping. But a big discount label is not always what it seems, and a few simple checks can make the difference between a real bargain and an expensive mistake.
When Black Friday and Cyber Monday fall
This year’s Black Friday takes place on Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday following a few days later on Monday 30 November.
The offers, however, are unlikely to be limited to those two dates. Some businesses may launch their promotions earlier, stretching the discount period. Many offers are also expected to be available online, where a large share of consumer purchases now takes place, and may run through to Cyber Monday.
Why the date changes every year
Black Friday does not have a fixed date. It is linked to the American holiday of Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
Black Friday falls on the following day, which is why its date changes from year to year.
A high discount is not a guarantee
The Black Friday period, and sales seasons in general, call for careful shopping, as a high percentage discount does not necessarily mean a product is being sold at the best price.
What to check before you buy
Consumers are advised to:
- Compare prices for the same product across different shops
- Check the technical specifications and the exact model code of the item they are interested in
- Factor in delivery costs, return terms and warranty before buying, to get a clear picture of the total cost
Extra care when shopping online
Particular caution is needed when buying online from shops you do not know. Before paying, shoppers are advised to check the business’s details, its terms of sale and its returns policy.
