DISY MP Giorgos Karaiskakis has expressed concern over reports from members of the public regarding the presence of sewage, rubbish and unidentified substances on beaches in Limassol, calling for immediate water sampling and clear public information on water quality.
In a public statement, Karaiskakis urged the competent authorities to proceed without delay with investigations to determine the source of any potential pollution affecting Limassol's coastline.
"The images and complaints by citizens regarding the possible presence of sewage, waste and unidentified substances on Limassol beaches are causing serious concern and require immediate answers," he said.
Call for immediate testing
Karaiskakis said authorities should carry out water sampling and laboratory analyses as soon as possible and provide official information regarding the suitability of the waters for bathing.
"The competent services must proceed without delay with sampling and laboratory testing, determine the source of the pollution and responsibly inform the public about the quality and suitability of the waters. The protection of public health and the marine environment allows no room for complacency," he added.
Issue to be raised in Parliament
The Limassol MP also announced that he intends to request an ex officio examination of the matter by the House Environment Committee when parliamentary work resumes.
According to Karaiskakis, the aim is to ensure that the relevant authorities are called before the committee to provide clear explanations and present the measures being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Concluding his intervention, Karaiskakis stressed the importance of safeguarding Limassol's marine environment and ensuring that public concerns are addressed through transparency and prompt action by the responsible services.
