Cyprus is set for a spell of warmer-than-average weather through the weekend, with temperatures forecast to rise gradually until Saturday before remaining at similar levels on Sunday.
According to the forecast, an area of seasonal low pressure is affecting the region, bringing mainly settled conditions across the island.
Temperatures set to rise
Thursday's temperatures are expected to reach:
- 37C inland
- 31C on the west and north coasts
- 33C along the remaining coastal areas
- 27C in the higher mountains
Forecasters say temperatures will continue to increase gradually through Saturday and remain noticeably above the seasonal average into Sunday.
Mostly sunny conditions
The weather is expected to remain mainly fine over the coming days.
Some increased cloud cover is forecast during the afternoons, particularly over mountainous areas, where isolated brief showers cannot be ruled out.
On Sunday, localised cloud development over higher ground may again produce isolated rainfall.
Light to moderate winds
Winds will be mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, generally light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with occasional stronger conditions of 4 to 5 Beaufort along southern and south-western coastal areas.
The sea is expected to remain calm to slightly rough.
Mild nights expected
Overnight conditions will remain mostly clear, although periods of low cloud are expected, especially near the coast.
During the early morning hours, mist or patchy fog may form in some areas, particularly in the south-east.
Temperatures overnight are expected to fall to around:
- 22C inland and along the coast
- 16C in the higher mountains
