Larnaca Municipality has received a Green Flag at the Cyprus-wide 2025 Green Cities and Green Communities Awards, in recognition of two projects that have reshaped green space in and around the city. The municipality was also one of three finalists for the title of Cyprus Green Capital.
The two recognised projects
The distinction recognises the creation of Salina Municipal Park in central Larnaca, in the “Culture and Environment” category, and the strengthening and expansion of the Green Beaches initiative, in the “Green Areas – Urban Biodiversity” category.
The ceremony
According to an announcement by Larnaca Municipality, the awards were presented by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, at the 8th Annual Awards Ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace on 5 October 2026.
Shortlisted for Green Capital
Larnaca Municipality was also one of three finalists for the special honorary distinction “Golden Mouflon” and the title of Cyprus Green Capital for 2025.
What the municipality says
According to the announcement, the recognition confirms the municipality’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the urban environment, strengthen greenery and biodiversity, and promote initiatives that make a meaningful contribution to improving residents’ quality of life.
