Cyprus and Montenegro will work to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday after meeting his Montenegrin counterpart, Jakov Milatović, in Nicosia.
Milatović thanked Christodoulides for Cyprus’ support for Montenegro’s EU accession path and described Cyprus as “a sincere friend”.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace, Christodoulides thanked Milatović for Montenegro’s longstanding support, “which remains firmly rooted in respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus and in support of a comprehensive settlement based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and, of course, on the law, values and principles of the European Union”.
“Cyprus and Montenegro are friends forever,” Milatović said in Greek at the start of his remarks, thanking Christodoulides for the hospitality in Nicosia and for Cyprus’ support for Montenegro’s European course. He said Montenegro wants more cooperation with Cyprus, including increased investment and joint projects that would bring more tangible improvements to citizens’ living standards.
