For almost two years now, as publisher of Politis, I have been meeting political leaders. We talk about the Cyprus issue, the economy, politics and everything concerning the country. That is what we did, together with the newspaper’s director, D. Dionysiou, at the meeting we had with you and Annita Demetriou.
The same happened when we met with the President of the Republic, the general secretary of AKEL, the president of DIKO, and a host of other politicians and diplomats. We discuss, exchange views, propose solutions and, at times, freely comment on current affairs.
The attempt, therefore, to present a dinner as an agreement for the 2028 presidential election is, at the very least, ridiculous. There was no such agreement, nor could there have been one. Who, honestly, could commit an entire party over a plate of food?
Dear Averof,
Your choice yesterday was a great disappointment. Taking a private conversation and turning it into a weapon for your personal candidacy is petty. It does not show strength. It shows how low you are prepared to go when your plans do not work out.
I will not make public what was said between us off the record. I keep my word even when the other person does not respect theirs. But be certain of one thing: you will not use my name to write history in whatever way suits you.
