New developments are emerging within the Democratic Rally (DISY) contentious presidential race, as party president Annita Demetriou has reportedly withdrawn from the process to select the party’s candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
The development comes as key discussions are taking place today at DISY headquarters with Demetriou and other presidential contenders within the party Averof Neophytou and George Pamborides.
The aim of the meeting was for the party to establish a common position on its course towards the next presidential election.
Demetriou had declared interest in September
Demetriou’s reported decision is expected to alter the dynamics of the internal party process, after she formally expressed her interest in seeking the party’s nomination on 29 September.
The latest developments come as discussions continue within DISY over the party’s strategy and potential candidate for the 2028 presidential contest.
