US President Donald Trump has publicly backed FIFA President Gianni Infantino, arguing that world football's governing body would make a "huge mistake" if it were ever to consider replacing him.
Trump described Infantino as "fantastic" and credited him with playing a decisive role in the success of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
"FIFA would be making a terrible mistake if, for any reason, they even considered replacing President Gianni Infantino," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
The US president's comments amount to one of his strongest public endorsements of the FIFA chief, whom he has worked closely with in the run-up to major international football tournaments hosted in North America.
Trump's remarks also underline the close relationship that has developed between the two men as preparations continue for the 2026 World Cup, which is being hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to the report, Trump characterised Infantino as "fantastic" and suggested that his leadership had been central to the tournament's success.
